Phoenix is Arizona’s capitol and the sixth largest city in the United States, with more than 1.4 million residents and growing. The city takes up more than 500 square miles, geographically exceeding Los Angeles.
Phoenix has many venues to enjoy, especially with our warm, sunny climate. There’s something for everyone including music, art, museums, sporting events, hiking, water parks, golf, shopping, bicycling, movies, and annual festivals. The University of Phoenix Stadium will host Super Bowl XLIX in 2015. Although Mexcian food is the most popular in the valley, there are lots of restaurants to choose from with food from all over the world.
There are two larger airports that service Phoenix. One is Sky Harbor and the other is Phoenix Mesa Gateway. There are several other smaller commuter or regional airports in the suburbs.
Phoenix has a light rail system for public transportation called METRO. It runs through north-central Phoenix, downtown, and eastward through Tempe and Mesa. Future rail segments of more than 30 miles are planned to open by 2030. Buses are also available for public transit; however, because the valley is so spread out, most people drive cars.
Bicycling Magazine ranked Phoenix the 15th most bicycle friendly city of fifty cities in the United States with a population greater than 100,000.
